Protesting police action and demanding the resignation of VC Farid Uddin Ahmed, students of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) are continuing their protest for the sixth consecutive day on Tuesday.

They brought out a procession at about 11am which paraded the whole campus and then gathered at Golchattar. There, they held a rally and began sit-in programme.

The protesters chanted different slogans to press home their three-point demands.

Demonstrator student Samiul Hasan Shafin said, "We are continuing the movement till the VC's resignation. We collected mass signature on Monday which will be sent to the President today. We will wait for his (President) decision."

On Monday night, Foreign Minister A K Abdul Momen met representatives of the protesting students and assured them to fulfil their demnds.

Later, water cannon left the campus area.

A large number of police personnel were deployed in and around the campus.

Earlier, the students announced VC Farid Uddin Ahmed as unwanted on campus. They also locked academic buildings of the university.
