“Say No to Guide Books”
“Say
No to Guide Books”.
Introduction
Kattali City corporation Girls’
High School and College of Pahartali thana
to represent the negative consequences of depending on guidebook only ignoring
main textbooks in education. The school organized a conversation, really, human
chain and conducted movement in this regard. Here is the history of how we got
involved in social action project of British Council.
History of involvement
We attended the orientation program
arranged by British Council and facilitated by BARCIK in March where we gained
an idea about social action projects. We received an application form and
submitted our project including full planning to the concerned authority.
British Council and BARCIK after screening approved our project and provided us
with a donation. The name of our project is “Say No to Guide Books”. After
receiving the donation, we involved selected students to the process and
prepared them clearly on how our project could be fulfilled appropriately.
Project activity execution
As part of assignment execution, we
accompanied the campaign in May and June where students in different times
distributed messages through creating festoons about the negative effects of
guidebooks on students. We arranged a meeting on 27 June where students,
teachers and guardians and members of school managing committee attended and
students with a banner bearing the slogan “say not guidebooks” directed the
rally appropriately. We also position human chain on the highways holding
festoons and at last, we arranged a discussion where councilor joined as chief
guest and journalist Imam Hossein Swapan attended as the special guest. The
discussants in the discussion discussed the negative effects of notebooks on
the student which disrupts students from their textbooks. They also added that importance
should be given on textbooks for knowledge and information as well as for
developing up as skilled citizens of the state. Moreover, we arranged essay
competition, meetings, and discussion with all stakes of the society before the
closing programs.
Conclusion
Both students and teachers feel proud of
being devoted to the social action project of the British Council which is
assisted by BARCIK. Not only among the students but also people living
everywhere and neighboring to the school are at least touched and realized the
negative impact of depending only on the guidebook on
students.
