Students’ perception towards Inquiry-Based learning to promote science Education:

Global Educators Initiative for Sustainable Transformation [GEIST] International Foundation on Tuesday night conducted its third virtual science session’s titled ‘Students perception towards Inquiry-Based Learning aiming to promote science education.  US department of state under its Alumni Engagement Innovation Fund (AEIF) supported the program.

A good number of teachers, students and noted educationists from seven countries joined the virtual session where the students from Bangladesh schools- Mapple leaf International School, BAF Shaheen College, BAF Shaheen English Medium School [SEMS], Tejgaw Govt Girls School shared their experiences on different projects under Inquiry-Based Learning [IBL].

 

The projects include- Difference between the photosynthesis rate of red leaf plant and a green leaf plant, How to determine the age of a fish by analyzing the scale of it,   The comparative amount of gluten content in a different type of local flour, Harmful effect of active and passive smoking and Effect of nitrate fertilizer on the growth of Chili plants.   

 

GEIST President, Biplob Kumar Dev chaired the session while Professor Jack Holbrook University of Tartu, Estonia joined the session as the expert and advisor of the IBL plan.

 

A senior Biology teacher of BAF Shaheen English Medium School [SEMS] Ms Lizoon Nahar moderated the session.

 

Speakers said, science education becomes fun to learn when there is an urgency or necessity to inquire about its various aspects. We need to develop the inquiry based learning as it creates interest and curiosity among the students for science education.  IBL will make the classroom science teaching interesting, students centered and effective. It allows the students to be creative and a critical thinker. So, the research based experiment on different projects of the students becomes successful. It will give a new shape of science teaching learning if it is well received by the teachers and students.
