Environmental awareness and learning concepts gets momentum in Rangpur School under the venture styled ‘’Know Nature: Local to Global project ‘’ funded through Alumni Thematic International Exchange Seminars [TIES] program supported by US Department of State.

The activity began in March-2023 that aims to establish a framework for learning projects between international schools in Indiana, Pennsylvania-USA, West Bengal, India and Bangladesh.

Students of Robertsongonj High School & College, Rangpur, Bangladesh have joined the venture engaging the young learners to address local environmental issues and to foster an understanding of global environmental concerns.

Lizoon Nahar, the Grant winner and a US Department State Aluma said, the task is to assist secondary school teachers by providing the necessary resources to identify local environmental problems and develop projects for their students from their perspectives. The collaboration between the schools for implementing extracurricular learning activities will help the students, teachers and community people to develop soft skills and knowledge on ecological issues with global implications by enhancing their environmental literacy.

Around 200 students and 15 teachers from the three countries have joined the activity. A teacher of Robertsongonj High School and College, Rangpur, Rawsan Jahan said, joining the program is a great experience for all of us as the activities are very effective and goal oriented.

It is learning beyond syllabus and borders aligned to the school curriculum. We have developed three project activities that included- '' Green industrial Concept, Rooftop gardening and its impact and Status of fish in Bangladesh Rivers'' and shared with our international counterparts.

The activities help the young learners to investigate the reasons and to know about the climate crisis, loss of biodiversity, food security adaptation and green environment programs that made them aware of the global educational trends, thinking and learning exchange projects.

It also helps them to develop knowledge, skills, attitude and values to live and work in a global economy and contribute responsibly to the society both locally and internationally.

Jarin Tasnim Arnika, a seven grader of the school said, we feel very happy joining the program as it has brought significant changes in the institute, widening our outlook and thought. We have to build a livable and beautiful planet for all.

Principal of the institute, Zakir Hossain said, it is a privilege and honour to develop collaboration with international schools which has created a multicultural learning opportunities and diversity for the teachers and students in the institute.

Global dimensions are essential to students’ learning, development and future prospects; that they should understand the Sustainable Development Goals and the need to collaborate and grow together with an internationalist viewpoint.
