Possession is a fundamental concept in language. It’s how we show that one thing belongs to, or is associated with, another. In English, we primarily use possessive nouns to convey this relationship. While the concept might seem simple—just add an apostrophe and an "s"—the rules can get a little tricky, especially when we're dealing with singular versus plural nouns.
Understanding the difference between singular possessive and plural possessive is the key to mastering this area of grammar. At its core, the distinction is straightforward:
A singular possessive noun shows that one person, place, or thing owns something.
A plural possessive noun shows that more than one person, place, or thing owns something.
