Every photograph is a love letter to a moment that will never happen again.
Happy World Photography Day!
Every year on August 19, World Photography Day is celebrated to honor the art, craft, science, and history of photography.
The day also encourages photographers from around the globe to share a single photo that encapsulates their world.
The date marks the day in 1839 when the French government bought the patent for the daguerreotype process and made it a free gift to the world.
Daguerreotype is an early photographic method. Louis Daguerre and Nicéphore Niépce invented this method. It used silver on a metal plate to capture permanent images. On August 19, 1839, France announced the invention as a gift for everyone.
The first World Photography Day was held on August 19, 2010. Nearly 270 photographers shared their pictures in a global online gallery. People from over 100 countries visited the online gallery. This event marked the first official World Photography Day. The day is held August 19th as it’s the date in 1839 that the government in France purchased the patent for the Daguerreotype process.
If you love photography, grab your camera, step outside, and capture today—because the best story is always the one you’re about to frame.
Never stop seeing the extraordinary in your ordinary day.
Share your favorite shot using hashtag World Photography Day in your favourite social media.
Let the world know, what’s one memory you’re holding onto today.
