In this modern era of the 21st century, our education system has changed radically due to the touch of technology. The use of digital classrooms, online resources and multimedia projectors is now a part of daily education. However, along with this expansion of technology, various digital risks such as cybercrime, phishing, scams and bullying are increasing. To protect both teachers and students from these risks and to create a safe digital learning environment, the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education and the related platforms have jointly launched the "Cyber Safety for Teachers" or Cyber Safety Teacher Training Course . It has been made mandatory for all secondary level teachers in the country to complete this course.
Course Objectives and Requirements
Teachers are the guides of society and role models for students. Today's students are very active in the world of the internet, but they are often unaware of the pitfalls or traps of the cyber world. If teachers themselves are not skilled and aware of cyber security, they will not be able to give the right guidance to students. The main objective of this course is to increase cyber awareness among teachers, so that they can keep their own digital devices and personal information safe, as well as teach students how to use the internet safely in the classroom.
Course Content and Modules
The entire course is neatly divided into 6 modules , which are being completed online through the NAEM ITLMS and DTCLMS Cyber Safety Portals. The key learning aspects of the course are:
- Identifying Common Cyber Threats: How to recognize and stay away from phishing emails, malware, lottery scams, and suspicious link traps.
- Device and Account Security: Secure use of smartphones, laptops, and social media accounts, two-factor authentication, and strong password management.
- Digital security in educational institutions: Protecting data privacy while operating digital classrooms.
- Practical Classroom Activities (Module 6): One of the most interesting parts of this course is its practical application. Teachers are not only acquiring theoretical knowledge, but also taking cyber security awareness classes with students in Module 6 and uploading their pictures or videos to the portal.
Its positive impact on the education system
As a result of this training, teachers are becoming aware of the dark sides of technology and are able to protect themselves from abuse of position or becoming victims of cyber bullying. The biggest advantage is that when a teacher completes this course, he is gaining the ability to develop hundreds of students in his school as cyber-aware citizens. As a result, a secure cyber space or safe internet culture is being created in the construction of Smart Bangladesh.
Conclusion
In this era of digital transformation, cyber security is not a luxury, it is an urgent necessity. All secondary teachers in the country are instructed to complete this course by September 30, 2026. The sooner teachers put on this digital armor, the safer and more secure our future generations will be. The "Cyber Safety for Teachers" course is a milestone in achieving this goal: technology should be a medium of education, not a cause for fear.
