Rabindranath Tagore (1861-1941)
Rabindranath Tagore was one of the greatest poets, writers, philosophers, musicians, and educators of Bengal. He was born on 7 May 1861 at Jorasanko, Kolkata, India.
Early Life
Rabindranath Tagore was born into a prominent Bengali family. From his childhood, he showed great interest in literature, music, and art. He received much of his education at home.

Nobel Prize
In 1913, Rabindranath Tagore received the Nobel Prize in Literature for his collection of poems, Gitanjali. He was the first Asian Nobel laureate in Literature.
Contribution to Music
Tagore composed thousands of songs, which are known as Rabindra Sangeet. He wrote the national anthems of both India — “Jana Gana Mana” and Bangladesh — “Amar Sonar Bangla.”
Contribution to Education
He founded Visva-Bharati University at Santiniketan. He promoted education in a natural and creative environment.

Rabindranath Tagore died on 7 August 1941 in Kolkata.
