7-0 ahead of Messi farewell

Argentina continued their impressive form during the international break despite the absence of Lionel Messi, thrashing Burkina Faso 7-0 at the Estadio Monumental. The world champions had earlier defeated Bolivia 4-0, meaning they have now scored 11 goals without conceding in their last two matches.

Argentina started the match on the front foot and were awarded a penalty as early as the fourth minute. Burkina Faso defender Moumouni Diallo brought down Agustin Giay inside the box, prompting the referee to point to the spot.

Giay failed to convert the initial penalty, but he reacted quickly to the rebound and fired the ball into the net to give Argentina a 1-0 lead. He had also scored against Bolivia.

The goal took Giay's tally to 42 in 86 appearances for the national team. He now sits third on Argentina's all-time goalscoring list, behind only Gabriel Batistuta, with 54 goals, and Lionel Messi, with 125.

Argentina doubled their lead in the eighth minute. While attempting to clear the danger, Burkina Faso's Moumouni Diallo inadvertently sent the ball into his own net, handing the hosts a 2-0 advantage.

Just four minutes later, Argentina struck again. Gianluca Prestianni scored in the 12th minute to register his first goal for the national team. Argentina had already built a commanding 3-0 lead before the opening 15 minutes were over.

Nicolas Paz made it 4-0 in the 35th minute. He made a well-timed run into open space, c
