Hare and Tortoise Completing Story — Full Completed Story

Once there lived a hare and a tortoise in a forest. The hare was very proud of his speed. He could run very fast, and he never missed a chance to show off his speed to others. The tortoise, on the other hand, was very slow, but he was patient, calm, and hardworking. He never felt ashamed of his slow pace.

One day, the hare laughed at the tortoise and said, "How slowly you walk! You will never reach anywhere in time." The tortoise felt insulted, but he did not lose his temper. He said politely, "Dear friend, speed is not everything. Let us have a race, and we shall see who wins." The hare laughed loudly at this challenge. He thought that the tortoise must be joking. But the tortoise was serious. At last, the hare agreed to the race.

A fox was fixed as the judge of the race. On the fixed day, many animals of the forest gathered to watch the race. The starting point and the finishing point were fixed, and the race began. As soon as the race started, the hare ran like the wind. Within a few minutes, he went far ahead of the tortoise. The tortoise was moving slowly but steadily towards the finishing point. He did not stop even for a moment.

After running some distance, the hare looked back and saw that the tortoise was far behind. He thought, "The tortoise will take hours to reach here. Let me take a short rest under this shady tree." Thinking so, the hare lay down under a tree and soon fell fast asleep. The cool breeze and the shade of the tree made his sleep deep and long.

Meanwhile, the tortoise kept walking slowly but steadily. He passed the sleeping hare quietly and moved on towards the finishing point. He did not stop, he did not rest, and he did not look back. Step by step, he came nearer and nearer to the finishing line.

After a long time, the hare woke up suddenly. He remembered the race and jumped up in fear. He ran as fast as he could towards the finishing point. But it was too late. When he reached near the finishing line, he saw that the tortoise had already crossed it. All the animals clapped and praised the tortoise. The hare felt very ashamed. He understood that his pride and carelessness had made him lose a race which he could easily have won.

Once there lived a hare and a tortoise in a forest. The hare was very proud of his speed. He always laughed at the slow tortoise. One day, the tortoise challenged him to a race. The hare agreed and laughed at the challenge.

The race began. The hare ran very fast and went far ahead. The tortoise walked slowly but steadily. After some time, the hare thought that the tortoise was far behind. So, he lay down under a tree and fell asleep. The tortoise kept walking and passed the sleeping hare. When the hare woke up, he ran fast, but it was too late. The tortoise had already reached the finishing line and won the race.

Moral: Slow and steady wins the race.

How do I write the hare and tortoise story for Class 6?

Write 120–150 words in short, simple sentences. Follow the given beginning, describe the race briefly, and end with "slow and steady wins the race." The shorter version in this post is ideal.

What should the hare and tortoise story for SSC include?

A well-organised 200–300 word story with clear beginning, middle, and end. Use correct past tense, connectors like "meanwhile," "after some time," and "at last." Mention both morals: slow and steady wins the race, and pride goes before a fall.

Why did the hare lose the race?

The hare lost because of pride and overconfidence. He was so sure the slow tortoise could never beat him that he slept under a tree in the middle of the race. His carelessness gave the steady tortoise time to pass him and win.

What does the tortoise teach us?

The tortoise teaches patience, regularity, and perseverance. He knew he was slow but never gave up and never stopped. For students, the lesson is: studying a little every day beats last-moment cramming.
