Article

A, An এবংThe হেИ Article. এর বাংলা হেИ পদািϜত িনেদশকκ । Parts of Speech গত

িদক έথেক এরা Adjective, তেব এরা মূলত determiner.

Article দুই φকার:-

(i) Indefinite Article: (অিনিদѭ- a/an) έয Article অিনিদѭ έকােনা বҝΝЅ,বᄿ বা φাণীেক

বুঝায়, তােক Indefinite Article বেল। A এবং An হেИ Indefinite Article । এვেলা

সবসময় Singular Countable Noun এর পূেব বেস। κ

(ii Definite Article((িনিদѭ-The): έয Article িনিদѭκέকােনা বҝΝЅ, বᄿ বা φাণীেক িনেদκশ

কের তােক Definite Article বেল। The হেИ Definite Article. The সাধারনত Singular

ও Plural উভয় φকার Noun এর পূেব বেস। κ

Common uses of ‘A’ and ‘An’

1.সাধারণত Consonant Sound এর পূেব A বেস। Sazid is κ

a boy .

2. সাধারণত Vowel Sound এর পূেব An বেস। It is κ

an apple.

3. H যিদ হ উЗািরত হয় তেব তার পূেব A বেস, আর H এর κ উЗারণ হ না হেল An বেস।

έযমন: h=হ=a এবং h ≠ হ=an . Sharif is an honest man. I have a horse.

4. έকােনা Vowel এর উЗারণ U এর মত হেল তার পূেব A বেস। κ

5. One যুЅ শেяর পূেব A বেস। She is κ

a one eyed woman.

6. সংিϠч পদবী এর পূেব Consonant Sound আসেল A আর Vowel Sound আসেল κ

An বেস।

# পদবীর φথম বণ বাংলায় κ έলখেল যিদ দু্Μট বণ হয় তেব An ,আর κ একΜট বণ আসেল A κ

বেস।

(বҝিতοম It is an A). He is an F.C.P.S(এফ). Nasif is a B.A.(িব)’.

Other uses of ‘a’ and ‘an’

মেন রাখুন: A/An (One) ზধু Singular Common Noun এর পূেব বেস। কখেনাই এরা κ

Plural Noun এর পূেব বেস না। κ

1. এক জাতীয় সকলেক έবাঝােত Singular Common Noun এর পূেব A/An বেস। κ

An ant is industrious.

2. মােঝ মােঝ prepostition ჈েপ A/An বেস।

Raj went a (on) hunting.

3. সংখҝাবাচক Expreesion(couple, dozen, score(20), hundred, thousand, million )

ইতҝািদ এর পূেব A বেস। κ

Asif earns a hundred taka a day.

4. Plural Noun এর পূেব few, little, good, many, lot of, great deal κ ইতҝািদ থাকেল

তােদর পূেব A বেস। Murad has κ

a few friends.

5. Exclamatory Sentence এ What/Such এর পর A/An বেস। έযমন, Such a long

queue! What a pity!

6. িকছΦ phrase এ A/An বেস। In a body. In a hurry.

7. Singular Common Noun এর পূেব quite, many, rather, but, more, not κ ইতҝািদ

বҝবহার হেল έসই Noun এর পূেব A/An বেস। you are but κ

a child.

8. Adjective এর পূেব so, too থাকেল ইহােদর পের A/An বেস। κ

Iron is so useful a metal.

9. তΦলনা অেথ Proper Noun যিদ Common Noun িহেসেব κ বҝবহার হয় তখন έসই

তΦলনীয় বҝΝЅর পূেব A/An বেস। κ

I see you are a Shakespeare.

10. Such/Many ইতҝািদ Singular Common Noun িহেসেব বҝবহার হেল বা এেদর পের

Singular Verb থাকেল Noun এর পূেব A/An বেস। κ

Many a man was present there.

11. অিনিদѭ কের έবাঝােল বা একΜট অথ φκ কাশ করেত A/An বেস, (one=a/an).

έযমন, Sharif gave me a pen.

12. অপিরিচত বҝΝЅর নাম έবাঝােল তার নােমর পূেব বা mr/mrs/miss এর κ পূেব A/An

বেস। έযমন, A Mr. Khan came here to meet you.

13. Superlative এর most যখন very বা খুব έবশী έবাঝায় তখন তার পূেব the না বেস, A κ

বেস। I saw a most wonderful sight.(a most=a very)

14. Common Noun যখন Abstract Noun িহেসেব বҝবহার হয় তখন έসই Abstract

Noun এর পূেব A/An বেস। Helen is κ

a beauty.

15. কােরা সѭৃ বা িনিমতκবᄿ έবাঝােত তার নাম বҝবহার হেল έসই নােমর পূেব a/an

বেস। Medha is reading a Milton (a writing of Milton).

Uses of ‘The’

1. িনিদѭκ কের έবাঝােল Common Noun এর Singular ও Plural উভয় Number এর পূেব κ

The বেস। The girl is playing. The girls are reading.

2. নদী, সাগর, মহাসাগর, উপসাগর, পবতκ έϜণী( তেব ১Μট মাϏ еীপ বা পবতκ নয়)

еীপপুн, পুП, έϊন, জাহাজ, ম჈ভূিম, িবখҝাত έহােটল, জাদুঘর, দালান/φাসাদ ইতҝািদর

পূেব The বেস। κ

The Padma is a big river. The Taj is a famous building.

3. পৃিথবীেত έযসব একক বᄿ আেছ ,পিবϏ ধম, সংবাদ κ পϏ, মহাকাবҝ ইতҝািদর পূেব κ

The বেস। The Quran is a holy book. The sun rises in the east.

4.িদেকর নাম еারা έদশ έবাঝােল, বণনাκ মূলক বা অথ পূণκ έκভৗগিলক নােমর পূেব The κ

বέস। έযমন, My cousin lives in the U.K.

5. Superlative Degree এর পূেব The বেস। κ έযমন, Shifat is the best boy in the class.

6. Comparative Degree যুЅ বােকҝ Two কথাΜট থাকেল Comparative Degree এর

পূেব The বেস। κ έযমন, Nasif is the cleverer of the two boys.

7. যত ,তত έবাঝােত Comparative Degree এর পূেব The বেস। κ

έযমন, The sooner, the better.

8. Plural পিরবােরর নােমর পূেব, Singular Designation(পদবী) এর κ পূেব The বেস। κ

Abdul Hamid is the president of Bangladesh.

9. Majority, public, police ইতҝািদ সাধারণত Plural িহেসেব গণҝ হয় এবং এেদর পূেব κ

The বেস। έযমন, The majority are on my side.

10. জািতর নােমর পূেব The বেস, তেব তখন তা Plural κ έবাঝায়।

έযমন, The English are a brave nation.

11. তািরখ/Ordinal Number এর পূেব The বেস। κ έযমন, The 16th December is our

victory day.

12. έয সকল Noun еারা έপশা έবাঝায় তােদর সামেন The বেস। έযমন, Sufian joined

the army.

13. বাদҝযΘ বাজােনা অেথ The বেস κ নতΦবা বাদҝযΘ থাকা অেথ A/An বেস। κ

έযমন, Anik plays the piano. But I have a piano.

14. Proper Noun এর পূেব বা পের Adjective থাকেল κ έসই Adjective এর পূেব The κ

বেস। έযমন, Alexander, the great, was a brave warrior.

15. একই ვণ সѕт দুই বҝΝЅ, বᄿ বা Ѹােনর সেД তΦলনা করা হেল যার সােথ তΦলনা

করা হয় তার পূেব the বেস। κ έযমন, Nazrul is the Byron of Bangladesh.

16. Possessive Adjective (my,our,your,his,her)ইতҝািদর পিরবেত The বেস। κ

έযমন, He struck me on the head (the=my).

এলাকার বা বᄿর বা বҝΝЅর έϠেϏ হেল The বেস।

έযমন, The rice of Dinajpur is famous. The honesty of Sayed Ali is known to all.

3. έখলার নাম ,Proper Noun ,একΜট মাϏ еীপ বা পবতκ, Uncountable Noun ইতҝািদ

এর পূেব The বেস না। Manik plays football. κ

4.ভাষার নােমর পূেব The বেসনা ,তেব ভাষার নাম κ еারা জািত έবাঝােল তার পূেব The κ

বেস আর তা Plural িহেসেব বҝব჊ত হয়।

έযমন, He speaks English. The English are a brave nation.

5. ভাষার নােমর পূেব Article বেস না, তেব ভাষার নােমর পর language κ শяΜট থাকেল

έসই ভাষার নামের পূেব The বেস। κ

έযমন, English is an international language. The English language is very

interesting to learn.

6.খাবােরর নােমর পূেব Article বেসনা, তেব খাবােরর নােমর κ পূেব Adjective থাকেল κ

A/An বেস। έযমন, We had X lunch. We had a good lunch.

7. ঋতΦর নােমর পূেব The বসােল ও চেল, না বসােল ও চেল তেব κ িনিদѭ কের έবাঝােল

The বҝবহার করাই উЫম। έযমন, The spring is the best season.

8. Bed, Mosque, Hospital, Church, Prison, School, College, University ইতҝািদেত

সাধারণ উেгেশҝ যাওয়া έবাঝােল Article বেস না, তেব িবেশষ έকােনা উেгেশҝ যাওয়া

έবাঝােল The বেস। έযমন, Shihab goes to X school regularly. Mr Saddam went to

the school to meet his friend.

9. Home এর পূেব সাধারনত Article বেস না, তেব এর κ পূেব έκকােনা বণনাκ মূলক শя

থাকেল έসই শяΜটর পূেব The বেস। κ έযমন, She is at X home, we arrived at the

bride’s home.

10. রাѷা, এҝিভিনউ, Ѵয়ার, পােকরκ নােমর পূেব Article বেস না, তেব κ রাѷার নােমর পর

road শяΜট থাকেল έসই রাѷার নােমর পূেব The বেস। κ έযমন, Apple bought a shop on

park street. Apple bought a shop on the park road.

11. Allah/God , িদন, মাস, শরীেরর অД φতҝД ,έপাশাক, পিরেИদ ইতҝািদর এর পূেব κ

Article বেস না। X Allah is Almighty.

12.এক বҝΝЅ বা বᄿ έবাঝােল একΜট Article আর দুই বҝΝЅ বা বᄿ έবাঝােল দুইΜট

Article. অথৃাৎκ , ১+১= ২ . ১+০=১
