Faster than fairies, faster than witches,
Bridges and houses, hedges and ditches;
And charging along like troops in a battle,
All through the meadows the horses and cattle:

All of the sights of the hill and the plain
Fly as thick as driving rain;
And ever again, in the wink of an eye,
Painted stations whistle by.

Here is a child who clambers and scrambles,
All by himself and gathering brambles;
Here is a tramp who stands and gazes;
And there is the green for stringing the daisies.

Here is a cart run away in the road,
Lumping along with man and load;
And here is a mill, and there is a river:
Each a glimpse and gone forever!

পরীদের চেয়েও দ্রুত, ডাইনিদের চেয়েও দ্রুত,
সেতু আর ঘরবাড়ি, গাছের বেড়া আর খাল-খন্দক;
যেন যুদ্ধক্ষেত্রে সৈন্যদের অগ্রযাত্রা,
ঘাসভরা মাঠে দৌড়াচ্ছে ঘোড়া আর গরু-ছাগল।

পাহাড় ও সমভূমির সব দৃশ্য
বর্ষার বৃষ্টির মতো দ্রুত ছুটে যায়;
চোখের পলকে বারবার
রঙিন স্টেশন শিস বাজিয়ে মিলিয়ে যায়।

এখানে একটি শিশু উঠছে, হোঁচট খাচ্ছে,
নিজেই ঝোপ থেকে বের করছে ফল;
ওদিকে এক ভিখারি দাঁড়িয়ে তাকিয়ে আছে;
আবার কোথাও সবুজ ঘাসে মালা গাঁথা হচ্ছে।

এখানে একটি গাড়ি ছুটছে রাস্তায়,
মানুষ আর মালামাল নিয়ে কাঁপতে কাঁপতে চলেছে;
ওখানে একটি কল, আর ওদিকে নদী—
