Short Biography of Begum Rokeya.

Begum Rokeya was the pioneer of women’s awakening in undivided Bengal. She was born in a landlord Muslim Family in the village called Pairabondh, Rangpur in 1880. His father’s name was Jahiruddin Mohammad Abu Ali Haider Saber and her mother’s name was Rahatunnesha Sabera Chaudhurani. Rokeya was married to Sayed Sakhawat Hussain in1897 at the age of 17. Her husband was the Deputy Magistrate of Bhagalpur (At present Bhagalpur is a district in the Indian state of Bihar).

  She advocated for men and women to be treated equally and she believed that women should have the same opportunities of education as men have in a society. She founded schools for Muslim girls. She was a tireless advocate for women's emancipation and wrote his novels or essays to support women. Her major writings are Sultana’s Dreams (1905), Padmarag(1924), Matichur(1904). This iconic figure died on 9 December, 1932 on her 52^nd birthday. Now 9 December is celebrated as the ‘Rokeya Day’ in Bangladesh.
