Tag Question

Tag শব্দের অর্থ যোগ করা বা জুড়ে দেওয়া । Tag Question শব্দের অর্থ প্রশ্ন যোগ করা তাই Tag Question এর শেষে Note of Interrogation(?)  যোগ করা বাধ্যতামূলক।

  Tag Question এর গঠন:-

প্রদত্ত Sentence+comma(,)+Tag Question+Note of interrogation(?).

*Tag Question করার সময় চারটি Auxiliary Verb ব্যতিক্রমভাবে Negative হয়।

Ø  Am not-aren’t/ ain`t.    Shall not-shan’t

Ø  Will not-won’t.              Cannot-can’t

v Tag Question এ কেনো সংক্ষিপ্ত n’t ব্যবহার হয় তা বিস্তারিত জানতে Parts of Speech এর ‍Sheet দেখুন।

                                             Rules of Tag Question-

1. Affirmative Statement এর Negative , আর Negative Statement এর Affirmative Tag হয়।

2. Tag Question এর Subject সর্বদা Pronoun হয়। যেমন, Saddam is a good boy, is n’t he?

3. সাহায্যকারী Verb বিহীন বাক্যের Tag Question করার সময় Tense অনুসারে do/does/ did বাবহার হয়।যেমন,  Shapla read a book, didn’t she?

4. Subj ও Verb বিহীন Exclamatory Sentence কে Tag Question করার সময় subj, it ও verb, is মনে করতে হয়। What a pity ( it is),isn`t it?

5. Imperative Sentence এ সাধারনত will you বা won’t you বসে।

যেমন, Never tell a lie,  will you?

6. Imperative sentence টি let us/let’s দ্বারা শুরু হলে Tag Question  এ shall we বসে।

যেমন,  Let us play football, shall we?

7. তবে let এর পর us না থাকলে will you বসে।  যেমন, let Nasif play football, will you?

8. কোনো Sentence এর Subj যদি Thing যুক্ত হয় তবে Tag Question এ it বসে।

যেমন, Nothing is impossible, is it?

9. কোনো Sentence এর Subj যদি Every, all,body যুক্ত হয় তবে Tag Question এর Subj হিসেবে they বসে।

যেমন, Everybody loves flowers, don’t they?

10. কোনো Sentence এর Subj যদি …. of us হলে we আর…. of you হলে you এবং ….of them হলে Tag Question এ they বসে।

11. The+adjective যুক্ত ‍subj হলে Tag Question এ they  বসে।

যেমন, The brave deserve the fair, don’t they?

12.  Sentence এ  hardly, seldom, little, few, scarcely ,barely, rarely, never ইত্যাদি Negative অর্থ প্রকাশ করে, তাই Tag Question Affirmative হয়।

যেমন, Murad hardly comes here, does he?

13. Sentence এর শুরুতে The father/mother/brother/sister/baby//beast ইত্যাদি থাকলে Tag Question এর Subj হিসেবে it ব্যবহার হয়।

যেমন, The mother rose in her, didn’t it?

14. কোনো Sentence এর Subj যদি There বা it হয় তবে Tag Question এর Subj হিসেবে ঐ শব্দ ব্যবহার হয়।

যেমন, It is a beautiful thing, isn’t it?

15. Sentence এ যদি have,has,had মূল verb হিসেবে ব্যবহার হয় তবে Tag Question দুই ভাবে হতে পারে।

যেমন, I have a pen, haven’t I? (British)/don’t I?(American)

16. Sentence এ have to,(do),has to(does),had to/used to(did) , ought to (oughtn`t/ shouldn`t) থাকলে ব্রাকেটের শব্দ সমূহ Tag Question এ ব্যবহার হবে।

যেমন, Manik has to study more, doesn’t he?(hasn’t he)

17. অনেক সময় বাক্যের সাহায্যকারী Verb সংক্ষিপ্ত আকারে অবস্থান করে, সেক্ষেত্রে সংক্ষিপ্ত আকারটির প্রকৃতরুপ নির্ণয় করে Tag Question করতে হবে।

যেমন, She`d done her duty, hadn`t she?

She`d go there, wouldn`t she?

18. Need বাক্যে সাহায্যকারী ও মূল Verb হিসেবে ব্যবহার হতে পারে।

I need your help, don`t I?  you need not worry, need you?

19. বাক্যে had better থাকলে Tag Question এ hadn’t এবং would rather থাকলে Tag question এ wouldn’t বসে।

যেমন, You had better go home, hadn’t you?

20. Motherland (বাংলাদেশ), earth, river, ship, ferry, train এর ক্ষেত্রে she, পিতৃভূমি (রাশিয়া), র্সূয, রাগ ইত্যাদি ক্ষেত্রে he ,নিজীর্ব বস্তু Singular হলে it এবং Plural হলে they বসে।

যেমন, Bangladesh is our mother land, isn’t she?

          Russia is a big country, isn’t he?   `I` is a pronoun,  isn’t it?

21. যদি Sentence এ Subj  হিসেবে One হয়  ব্যবহার হয়। তবে Tag Question এ subj হিসেবে one ই ব্যবহার হয়।

যেমন, One should do one’s duty, shouldn’t one?

22. Common Gender রুপে ব্যবহৃত Singular Noun এর পর Tag Question এ শুধু he বসে। যেমন, Man is mortal, isn’t he?

           A teacher teaches  his students, doesn’t he? এছাড়াও,

           Allah is almighty,isn’t He/Allah?

Board Question:

Make tag questions of these statements.            

1.  (a) I am an SSC examinee,………?   [Dha. Bd.-2019]

(b) My expectation is getting A+,……?

(c) Some of my classmates became addicted to using mobile phones,…?

(d) They could not pass the test exam,……………?

    (b) Because trees supply us oxygen,fruits and wood,….?
